Although you could do this anytime of the year, Family Time recommends it if you’re looking for one to do right after Easter or around the Fourth of July.
Younger kids will really like this activity. But if you have also have teens who are good sports or have a sense of drama or adventure, they’ll love whipping up the intensity of this one! Today’s activity is all about the early church and the secrecy and danger that surrounded their meetings. The threat of persecution was real, and still is today in many parts of the world. Your kids will get a much better idea what that’s like by meeting “in secret” to worship in your own home.
This works because kids like hide-and-seek, having secrets, and feeling like they’re getting away with something under cover of night. It’s fun and exciting, but they’ll also appreciate more the danger faced by Christians doing this for real.
Be sure you remind them of this activity any time you hear of persecuted Christians meeting in secret in parts of the world today. Make it a family priority to pray for them as fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
If you like this, be sure to go to Family Time‘s website to sign up for their emails. You’ll get a new activity every month!
