Businesses have them. Charities have them. Even ministries have them. Do YOU have a mission statement, for your family? My guess is that the vast majority of us do not. But what a fantastic idea! This Family Time Activity spells out exactly how to do it, and it starts off with an activity to show why we need one at all.
Fair warning- You’ll need a little more time for this one to do it right. But you could also split it into two nights- one with the trash cans, and the other to review and then move on to the actual mission statement. It’s better if you can do it all at once, but you may not be able to make that work with your schedule.
Another point I want to make about this one is about dads. If Dad is in the home, this is an important one to have him lead. The reality with these activities is that sometimes, Mom has more time to get the activity together and lead (or help lead) it. Other times, Mom gets everything ready and hands it off to Dad. (Don’t bristle, ladies, that’s what being a helpmate looks like!)
Since this one is so clearly about family leadership and purpose, it’s important for Dad to take his place as the spiritual head of the home and lead here. It’s also important for your kids to see a dad doing what he’s called to do biblically.
Family Time: Family Mission Statement
When you have your mission statement, go ahead and make something to display in your home. Refer to it often, and make it part of your family’s culture and testimony.
By the way, a great activity to pair up with this one would the Family Flag activity.
(Note: I found that really cool picture for the title image here: http://onegirldesignshoppe.com/ . If you want one, just check out her site and have a customized sign made. I have no association with her; I just think her signs are gorgeous!)
